Read About My Paintings

The history, present, and future of all life is written in the organic forms of the earth. The gesture of a seed sprouting or of a cell dividing show the power, importance, and the exquisite fragility of life. Trees, stones, earth, and senescent beings have their story to tell. My paintings, explore and celebrate this narrative illustrating the elements of the earth voicing its beauty, meaning, and richness.

The texture and ground give a depth of surface reminiscent of earth formations portraying time and living organic forms and characters. Symbols, images, forms, and colors appear as integral and are superimposed and/or buried into the surface. I use a mixture of medias and materials including acrylic and oil paint, Plaster of Paris, marble dust, paper, sand, sawdust, dry pigment, earth, stone or slate, metal shavings, charcoal and drawing materials dissolved in compatible substances to construct the ground that holds the image.
